Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to study the importance of chemical education for sustainability in residential areas, where it is necessary to generate less hazardous waste to promote a safe environment. The methodology used was a systematic review through an updated search in Dialnet and Google Scholar of scientific articles in Spanish, associated with the research descriptors. The results highlight the importance of chemical education for sustainability in achieving a safe environment, an also recognize chemical compounds that are generated in residential areas and hazardous waste that have harmful effects on urban populations. The conclusions highlight the need to promote education in the field of chemistry under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 and 4 that propose the protection of health and the environment in residential areas, as well as quality education to achieve this. The practices of identification and proper management of hazardous chemical waste, being efficient, impact the quality of life of citizens, guaranteeing environmentally safe residential areas.
