Abstract

Dengue is a vector-borne infectious disease caused by dengue viruses (DENV), which is transmitted predominantly by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. DENVs are members of the Flavivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family. All four serotypes of the dengue virus circulate throughout the world. Dengue is a growing public health challenge, and is endemic in the tropics and subtropics, with an estimated 3.8 billion people infected. On the other hand, health education is understood as a process that enables individuals to develop a highly critical vision of their living conditions. This understanding is reflected in the discourse of health education in the school environment, whose central axis is to develop learning that transforms attitudes and life habits to promote reflection on the sense of responsibility for health. In this sense, an action and participation investigation was developed in 19 schoolchildren distributed between the sixth grades of primary school to fifth grades of secondary school in Peru; with the objective of training health watchmen through the development and/or strengthening of capacities in the promotion of healthy practices against dengue. The results were evaluated in two categories: characteristics of dengue and the vector that transmits it, and healthy practices against dengue and prevention actions, in both cases, a greater knowledge of the different items was noted after the post-test, in many of the them, the results reached 100%.
