Resumen

At present, it is visualized as within social spaces and in university environments, there is generational diversity, a complex issue, with many edges, which has a direct impact on individuals, since they are the peculiar qualities of each generation, which allows to define the surrounded reality, the environment, the identity, the path of political actions, of culture, among other aspects. In general, the existence of five converging generations since the 20th century is conceived: the silent generation, the Baby Boomers, generation X, generation Y or millennials, generation Z or centennials. The coexistence of them raises problems when facing the educational act, given that each one has a way of conceiving the world, of conditioning knowledge and of approaching reality. By virtue of the above, the essay, developed under the hermeneutic-documentary method, explores the essential characteristics of the aforementioned generations, while reflecting on the urgency of adapting the university to current technological changes, promoting intergenerational dialogue, as an element that promotes university transformation and the projection of the university towards the social. It concludes on the importance of facing the challenges that the digitization of the university implies in the 21st century, without losing sight of its citizen commitment.
