Resumen
In a dynamic environment, determined by the rapid and constant evolution of technologies, new social demands arise, which require trained personnel to provide solutions and face complex problems from critical and interdisciplinary perspectives. In view of the above, the objective of this research was to analyze the impact of the STEM approach on the development of research competencies in higher education students and teachers. For this purpose, a quantitative, descriptive and longitudinal methodology was applied. The findings indicate that the development of research competencies is widely favored by the application of the STEM approach, by showing signs of critical thinking, creativity and responsibility. Likewise, the implementation of technologies and active methodologies improves learning, as well as the articulation of theoretical and practical knowledge, without this meaning that there are no problems and barriers to face. It was concluded that the STEM approach improves research competencies and drives the educational transformations of the 21st century.
